Dresden is full of treasures– lots of small architectural details like gargoyles and deer heads over doorways and such. My camera is full of pictures of such random things. The “Furstenzug,” or March of the Nobles, is not one of those small architectural details. It depicts various rulers and noblemen from throughout the history of Saxony. At 334 feet long and 34 feet tall, it is in fact a very large architectural detail:
A close up of some of the 23,000 tiles that comprise the mural. It was originally painted on the building in 1871-1876, but replaced with the tiles between 1904 and 1918 due to the painting deteriorating. It was apparently minimally damaged during the firebombing of Dresden:
